Start Capacitors & Run Capacitors for Electric Motors - Differences Explained by TEMCo- @TEMCo Industrial Power
My start up capacitor on my compressor is only 31.5uF at 400v (2 terminal) if i buy a much bigger uF rating ie (400uF) would it make my compressor start easier.
Mine at present doesn't always start up every time, sometimes it buzzes upon start up and freezes,if i spin the motor by hand it will start up, is my start up capacitor faulty and would it cause these start up problems??
- Hi I have a air compressor used for painting cars, when its very cold weather the compressor sometimes won't start up. When i pull the red switch up to start it, it buzzes loudly tries to start but doesn't have enough power. If the weather is hot, then most of the time it starts.
It has gotten progressively worse at starting now it's about a 50/50 if it's going to fire up or not, when it does start it runs perfect and generates lots of pressure.

If i helped the motor along with my hand by spinning the fan blades it does start, sometimes it starts slowly whilst buzzing then gradually build up speed then runs okay after about 10 seconds.

Does it sound like the start capacitor at fault? , I do not have a run capacitor on this compressor.

Could the start capacitor (faulty) CAUSE ALL THESE ISSUES?
- I manually spun fan and it worked slid it back in place and it would not run again what could be wrong ?
- Also I have a start capacitor on it and it has failed could It possibly had a run cap on it idk because it exploded but it has a centrifical switch on it so idk
- I have a very old pump and I don't know what mfd cap I should use and I had took it apart when I was 11 and I'm 14 now and I have a lot more experience so now I know what to do but I had lost it I think it was about 140mfd can you help please
- hi

do you have a video of 575 watts metal hallide bulb using a start up capacitor as in the moving head 575 watts dj light  and what is the best mfd to use interms of this 240v capacitor if your using 575 watts metal hallide bulb
- i have a question. i am using an old garage door opener motor for a project and it requires a capacitor. i am not sure which kind it is. the entire label on it reads ( Motor Capacitor 220VAC  43~53uF (60Hz)  Stanley Automatic Openers P/N: 360-2986) im using the motor as a chain driver which is what it was made for but i do not understand what type of capacitor it is and i also had to remove the circuit board for what i am needing it for. the motor has 4 wires coming from it 1-red 1-blue 1-black and there is a white wire running into it strait from the plug so i am guessing it is a main hot wire. there are 2 Dual prongs on the capacitor. what kind of capacitor is it and how would i hard wire it for it to either run the motor or to just start it?
- I have 200w 220v 50Hz AC induction motor use as a fan.
It come with a 3.5mF run capacitor from the factory. The cap fail (once) and look like about to fail again soon (motor slow down, higher running temperature)

What can I do to make it more durable and economical to run? (change capacitor to a higher quality one?)
Could (or should I) I replace the running capacitor with higher capacitance?
- Maybe you can show all kind of capacitors and what are they used for...i want to know the various kind of capacitors
- I would like to see the voltage meter readings when you are checking the capacitors in this video. Thank you
- Thanks man i got a new capacitor couldn't get back the 60uf. Got a 70 but it ok still going try and get the 60. Hope thsts ok for now
- can i change my whirlpool washer 60uf + -5% 250vac capacitor to a 110vac
- hi

I have a 3 phase 4kw motor running an Aqua blast cabinet but want to convert to single phase using start capacitors but am not up to speed with the subject matter involved to achieve this? What size and how many caps would I need to run a 4kw motor and how do I go about doing so? my cabinet has a 240v light and 24v electrics so would I need to change the 3 phase 24v transformer to a 12v single phase transformer?

Any help form you or anyone out their would be very much appreciated
- good video
- 415 is 4 phase voltage.
- 3 phase is 415 volts.
- Can I use a run capacitor to start a motor with a load but I need it to keep going at least for 1 minute without any other power source. This is a 12 V DC, car wiper motor, under load more than 5 amp. How big should the capacitor be if this is possible?

- Yikes. my 31 year old Keeprite A/C's capacitor looks like it has some of the oil pooled on the top inside the rim.  I know this is the weak point of this unit...Been running 31 years with no repairs (that i'm aware of, certainly not any repairs in the 16 years we've owned the house).  Be nice to be able to replace it and keep this gem of a unit running.
- I have an older AC motor that is 240v and runs two capacitors. I went to fire it up and one of the capacitors smoked up. The other one was entirely cool and I noticed it doesn't seem to have any juice in it. The smokey one was spraying heck all over the place.

My suspicion was that one capacitor went bad and it wasn't able to get up to speed and thus the centrifugal switches weren't able to kick in and it smoked the other one. Does that make sense or am I completely off the mark.

Also for replacing these would I need 120v capacitors since it's one capacitor on each 120v circuit or would I need two 240v capacitors? Mine also don't have the bleed down resistor on them, not sure if that's necessary for the newer ones or not. It's an old saw from the 20s but the motor is definitely newer.

Stumbled across these videos from your ebay auctions. Figured I'd see what you guys have to say on it.
