- I have three questions:
1. Would a four pole motor have four electro magnets inside with a commutator split into four instead of two?
In my experience of using fan motors, 2 pole motors turn at 2600rpm, 4 pole at 1200rpm and 6 pole at 900?rpm.
2. Why is this? Why does the number of poles affect the speed?
3. Also I notice the brush at some point is in contact with both halves of the commutator.  Wouldn't that create a short circuit and/or power both magnets at the same time?

- Question- I am checking a brushed DC motor used as a fuel pump. It has 8 commutator segments and uses permanent magnets. I am checking the amperage draw on the motor using a current probe. My question is, when is the motor current draw highest, when the brushes are directly on the commutator segments, or when the brushes are bridging two segments? Thanks!
